My final project from the Stampin' Addicts Spring Catalog Blog Hop is a Thank You card. I think this card has a bit of an Art Deco look to it.

This card begins with a Summer Starfruit card base. Two pieces of Midnight Muse tone-on-tone striped paper from the 2012-2014 In Color Designer Series Paper Pack were cut into one inch strips and adhered along the top half of the card front leaving approximately 1/4 inch between the top of the paper strip and the card fold and between the two paper strips. A piece of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was wrapped around the card front immediately below the fold and knotted on the card front.
The lined overlapping circles banner from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set was stamped four times on Whisper White cardstock using Midnight Muse ink and die cut in the Big Shot with the corresponding Hearts a Flutter Framelits. The banners were adhered to the card front, below the ribbon, using Stampin' Dimensionals.
The blank ticket image, from the That's the Ticket stamp set, was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Summer Starfruit ink, cut out with Paper Snips, and adhered to a Midnight Muse ticket punched with the large ticket part of the Ticket Duo Builder punch. The "gratitude" image, from the Fabulous Phrases stamp set, was stamped at the center of the stamped ticket using Midnight Muse ink. The ticket was adhered near the lower right corner of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

A piece of Whisper White cardstock was matted with a piece of Midnight Muse cardstock to create a liner for the inside sentiment area of the card. Strips of Summer Starfruit cardstock were adhered along the top and bottom edges of the liner. Slightly wider strips of Midnight Muse tone-on-tone stripe paper were adhered along the edges of the Summer Starfruit strips.

Continuing with the follow-up for the projects I shared during last weekend's Stampin' Addicts Spring Catalog Blog Hop, here's a simple Birthday card that features one of the images from the That's the Ticket stamp set as the focal point.

One of the best values in the Stampin' Up! Catalog is the Note Cards & Envelopes (2012-2013 Stampin' Up! Catalog, page 160). This package contains 20 Whisper White cards and 20 Whisper White envelopes. The cards are scored and ready for stamping. With a folded size of 3 1/2" x 5", these cards are great for quick notes, thank you's and gift enclosures. I love to use them when I need to make a stack of cards as a gift for a friend or co-worker at short notice. All that being said, that's the base card and envelope used for this project.
A piece of Whisper White cardstock was embossed in the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions embossing folder. The 1/16" hole punch was used to place holes at the upper left and right corners of the embossed panel. Diagonal banners, from the Hearts a Flutter stamp set, were stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Tangerine Tango, Rich Razzleberry, and Tempting Turquoise inks. These banners were die cut in the Big Shot using the corresponding die cut from the Hearts a Flutter Framelits. The banners were "softened up" by pulling each banner between thumb and Bone Folder a few times. A score line was placed parallel to the top edge of each banner approximately 1/4" from the top and a thin line of Tombow Multi Adhesive was placed over the score line on the back side of each banner. The banners were placed face down on the work surface approximately 1/4" apart and a piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine was placed across the banners at the score lines. The top of each banner was folded over at the score line and pressed into place using the tip of the Bone Folder to "burnish" the folded area of each banner. A Stampin' Dimensional was placed at the center back of each banner and the banners adhered to the Polka Dot embossed panel (with the punched holes above the Baker's Twine). The ends of the Baker's Twine were inserted into the punched holes at the upper corners and Silver Brads inserted into the holes. The ends of the Baker's Twine were wrapped a couple of times around the open brad legs and trimmed with Paper Snips. The Polka Dot embossed panel was adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.
The birthday greeting, from the That's the Ticket stamp set, was stamped on Whisper White cardstock, cut out with Paper Snips, adhered to a piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock punched with the large ticket of the Ticket Duo Builder punch, and adhered to the center of the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The inside of the card features a piece of Whisper White cardstock matted with a piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock. The diagonal banner was stamped near the upper left corner of the Whisper White cardstock using Rich Razzleberry ink. The blank ticket image was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Tangerine Tango ink, cut out with Paper Snips, matted with a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock punched with the large ticket of the Ticket Duo Builder punch, and adhered at the center of the Whisper White cardstock. A ribboned greeting, from the Bring on the Cake stamp set, was stamped at the center of the ticket using Rich Razzleberry ink.

The diagonal banner was stamped at the upper left corner of the Whisper White envelope using Tempting Turquoise ink. The ribboned greeting was stamped under the banner using Rich Razzleberry ink.
I think the size of this card is just perfect for tucking under a ribbon at the top of a package or inside a small gift bag. I promised that I'd be back to follow-up with my projects from the Stampin' Addicts Spring Catalog Blog Hop. I'll begin with the project that received the most attention, the Valentine's Pocket.
I love the Petite Pocket Bigz XL die. It's so versatile and lends itself to so many fun uses because it can be decorated quickly and easily. I chose the following products from the Spring Catalog to decorate my pocket: Primrose Petals Core'Dinations cardstock for the pocket and the More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper for the doily heart, punched hearts, and belly band.

Primrose Petals Core'Dinations cardstock was used with the Petite Pocket Bigz XL die to create the pocket die cut. The die cut was folded at the score lines using the Bone Folder. The hearts folder from the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions embossing folders was used to emboss the front panel of the pocket. Start at the top of the pocket front panel and then repeat, adjusting the folder to ensure the hearts continue to be offset every other row, to emboss the entire front panel.

You'll note that the subsequent embossing will somewhat flatten rows that were previously embossed. Don't worry about that. Once you have completed embossing the front panel, open the embossing folder to expose the inside of the front of the embossing folder. Place the embossed front panel face down on the inside front of the embossing folder, lining up the rows of the pocket with the rows of the embossing folder. Use the small tip of the Simply Scored Stylus to re-emboss the hearts.

Remove the pocket from the embossing folder and use the Bone Folder to flatten the embossing on the fold in flaps of the pocket. Use the sanding block to lightly sand the raised embossing on the front of the pocket.
Refold the pocket and make a hole on the back panel just below the notch in the closure flap, insert a Silver Brad into the two die cut circles and attach to the hole, opening the brad legs inside the back panel. Place a very thin line of Tombow Multi Adhesive along the inside edges of the back panel and press the pocket closed (leaving the flap open).

A piece of More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper was punched on both long edges with the Scallop Edge Border punch. The strip was placed face down on the work surface, the pocket placed face up at the center and the outside edges folded over the front of the pocket using SNAIL to adhere the ends of the punched paper strip to create a belly band.

A heart doily was clipped from the doily sheet included with the More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper and adhered over the belly band on the front of the pocket. A piece of Pool Party cardstock was die cut and embossed using the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit. The die cut heart was adhered at the center of the doily heart using Tombow Multi Adhesive. Five hearts were punched from a sheet of More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper, folded in half at the centers and adhered together right side of one heart to the left side of the next to create the raised fold hearts. The hearts were adhered at the center of the Pool Party scalloped heart using Tombow Multi-Adhesive.
The Valentine's Day image from the That's the Ticket stamp set was inked with Primrose Petals ink, stamped on Whisper White cardstock, and cut out with Paper Snips. This image was adhered to a piece of Pool Party cardstock punched with the large ticket of the Ticket Duo punch. The tickets were adhered to the front of the pocket at the base of the doily heart using Stampin' Dimensionals.
A piece of Pool Party 3/8" Ruffled ribbon was wrapped around the top of the pocket (with the flap open) and knotted on front.
Now it's time to find something really special to put inside the pocket for my Valentine...

My stop features the That's the Ticket stamp set. This is one of those go-to stamp sets for when you need a little something to make a themed project come together.
One of the first things I remember making with paper, scissors, and glue was Valentine's cards. Mom would put out lots of construction paper, scraps of ribbons, her button bowl, tubes of glitter, paper doilies, and other odds and ends that she had stashed away. Let's just say that after 6 kids had finished with their Valentines the dining room was pretty sparkly! This Valentine pocket doesn't have sparkle, but I think it has lots of heart.

There are a couple of other new products from the Spring Catalog included in this project: More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper for the hearts and Primrose Petals Core'Dinations cardstock for the pocket die cut with the Big Shot and the Petite Pockets Bigz XL die.
Sometimes you need make something quickly for a birthday. The diagonal-striped banners from the Heart's a Flutter stamp set, die cut with the Big Shot using the coordinating Heart's a Flutter Framelits, add the bright colors.

There are five event-specific images in the That's the Ticket stamp set. The remaining three images allow you to have some fun. One has lines that you can use for a quick personal message and another is designed to look like an admission ticket. The third is blank at the center; so I used that image with the Fabulous Phrases stamp set to add a sentiment to the card front of this card.

The Heart's a Flutter stamp set and coordinating Heart's a Flutter Framelits provides the scalloped Art Deco-looking banners across the top of the card front.
Note: For all of the projects shown above the ticket image was cut out with Paper Snips and matted with a piece of cardstock punched with the Ticket Duo Builder punch.

Today's post features snowflakes. Not that we ever see any in this part of East Central Florida... [Well, to be truthful, we do see them but they are manufactured for an event; like the snowflakes I saw at Disney's Hollywood Studios this past weekend while walking through the street sets decorated with the Osborne Family Lights.] This project was inspired by a scrapbook page featured in Stampin' Success, a magazine published for Stampin' Up! Demonstrators, that featured the Stampin' Spritzer with reinkers and alcohol to create custom backgrounds.

For this 8" x 8" scrapbook page, I used Frost White Shimmer Paint and 70% Rubbing Alcohol (in a mixture of 3 small drops of paint in a spritzer 80% full of alcohol). The Snow Flurry Bigz die was used to create snowflakes from thin cardboard or chipboard that were scattered across the Night of Navy base page. Then the paint/alcohol mixture was spritzed over the page. There are a few things to remember: 1. Be sure to mix the paint/alcohol mixture thoroughly by gently moving the spritzer back and forth multiple times, 2. Do a test spritz on a piece of scrap paper to make sure that the spray nozzle is pointed correctly and to judge how near or far you need to be from the paper (close = large drops or splotches; farther back = mist), and 3. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area [VERY IMPORTANT!!]. Using 70% Rubbing Alcohol for this mixture does have one small disadvantage: the water content will tend to buckle the paper a bit. You can avoid this by using a higher percentage rubbing alcohol; however, be advised that with the Shimmer Paint, the higher the alcohol percentage, the more likely the mixture will be splotchy rather than misty.
The snowflake at the upper right corner of the page was made from Shimmery White cardstock (largest snowflake), Champagne Glimmer Paper (medium snowflake), and Silver Glimmer Paper (smallest snowflake). The layers were adhered together and to the base page with Mini Glue Dots. The center of the snowflake features a large Vintage Faceted Designer Button with a Large Jewels Basic Pearl adhered to the center bowl area of the button. Mini Glue Dots were used to adhere the button to the center of the Silver Glimmer Paper snowflake. Strips of Champagne, Silver, and Red Glimmer Paper were adhered across the bottom of the page.

A page embellishment was made by stamping "Peace on Earth" (Greetings of the Season stamp set) on Shimmery White cardstock and punching it out with the Extra Large Oval punch. The sentiment was adhered to the center of a piece of Red Glimmer Paper punched with the Decorative Label punch using Stampin' Dimensionals. More Stampin' Dimensionals were placed on the back of the Red Glimmer Paper to adhere to the base page after the photos have been placed.

Here's a Christmas card made using elements from the scrapbook page. You can see the spritzed snowflakes on the card front and the die cut snowflakes; the only change is the size of the Vintage Faceted Button (the smallest sized button) and the size of the pearl adhered to the center bowl area of the button (the largest size pearl in the Jewels Basic Pearls). The scrapbook page embellishment was adhered near the bottom of the card front. A piece of Whisper White 3/8" Taffeta ribbon was threaded between the two pieces of the embellishment, wrapped around the card front, and knotted at the right of the embellishment.

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Whisper White cardstock. Strips of Champagne, Silver, and Red Glimmer Paper were adhered along the top and bottom edges of the liner. A Christmas greeting (from the Petite Pairs stamp set) was stamped near the upper center of the liner using Night of Navy ink.

I'm really pleased with the way these projects turned out. It's hard to see in these photos, but the shimmer and shine from the papers and the spritzed Shimmer Paint create a truly lovely effect. And very reminiscent of a snowfall on a clear night.

Fall is a somewhat nebulous thing in East Central Florida. We do have some trees that lose their leaves, like sycamores and crepe myrtles, but we don't have the spectacular colors that you find in the Northern areas. Unfortunately, we don't have the noticeable change in weather that is also associated with Fall, so we look forward to a day or two here and there where the temperatures drop into the low 80s and we can open the windows and enjoy the fresh air moving through the house. Believe me, it makes a difference.
Here's a card that features one of my favorite stamp sets for Fall...French Foliage.

This card begins with a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock. The top 2/3 of the cardstock was randomly stamped with the leaf images from the French Foliage stamp set using Cajun Craze (largest leaf), Early Espresso (smallest leaf), and Always Artichoke/More Mustard (medium leaf). To ink the medium leaf with the two colors, ink one half of the leaf image with the lighter color (More Mustard) by laying half of the stamp face along the edge of the ink pad. Then turn the stamp 180 degrees and lay the opposite side of the stamp face along the edge of the darker ink pad (Always Artichoke). Crumb Cake ink was used for the splotches image stamped randomly between the leaves.
A piece of Early Espresso Core'Dinations cardstock was embossed in the Big Shot using the Woodgrain Textured Impressions embossing folder and sanded with the Stampin' Sanding Block to reveal the lighter Crumb Cake-colored core of the cardstock. The embossed panel was adhered to the bottom of the leaf stamped Very Vanilla panel and the edges of the combined panel were sponged with Cajun Craze ink. A piece of Victoria Crochet Trim was adhered over the top edge of the embossed panel and then a piece of Early Espresso 1/8" Taffeta ribbon was wrapped around the panel and knotted on the front, slightly off center. The combined panel was then adhered to a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock (the edges sponged with Cajun Craze ink) and then to the Always Artichoke card front (the edges sponged with Always Artichoke ink).
To finish the card front, a piece of Always Artichoke cardstock was die cut in the Big Shot using the smallest of the Apothecary Accents Framelits. The edges of the die cut were sponged with Always Artichoke ink and the die cut adhered to the Very Vanilla area of the combined panel using Stampin' Dimensionals. The medium leaf was inked with More Mustard ink and the edges rolled across the Always Artichoke ink pad (a technique called Rock & Roll) then stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. The Thank You sentiment, from the Petite Pairs stamp set, was stamped at the center of the leaf using Early Espresso ink and the leaf cut out with Paper Snips. The leaf was adhered to the die cut using SNAIL. Some of my stamp club members decided to use Stampin' Dimensionals to add a little more interest.

The inside sentiment area of the card was lined with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. You can see the leaf images and splotches stamped randomly across the top 1 1/2 inches of the liner, using the same process that was used for the card front, and the edges of the liner sponged with Cajun Craze ink. The sentiment, from the Petite Pairs stamp set, was stamped just below the leaves using Early Espresso ink.

The flap of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope also features the randomly stamped leaves and splotches with the edges of the flap sponged with Cajun Craze ink.
It's hard to remember that Fall has a couple more weeks when folks are decorating for the Winter holidays--until it's time to drag out the leaf blower and the rake to find the lawn. Enjoy these last few days of Fall; the Winter will be here soon enough.

It's pretty hard to believe that it's November and that Thanksgiving is just days away. The pace of my life is picking up with the Holidays and the To Do List is growing by the minute. Now it's a matter of finding ways to fit everything in... One of those things is keeping up with posting on my blog. So, thanks so very much for hanging in there with me and most especially for your support!
Here's an 8" x 8" scrapbook page with an image you don't see too often: a celebrating elephant.

The You're Amazing stamp set was used for this page and is one of the stamp sets that I received at the Stampin' Up! Convention in July. I'll admit that it's not one that I would normally choose for myself. I really like the word images in the stamp set: the "Happy Birthday" and "You're Amazing" images that coordinate with the Apothecary Accents Framelits, and the small and large ticket images that coordinate with the Ticket Duo Builder punch. The rest of the images just didn't do anything for me. However, I have the stamp set, so I needed to put ink on it and share it with my customers.
We begin with a base page of Basic Gray. A piece of Sticky Strip was adhered along the bottom edge of the page. The elephant image was stamped above the Sticky Strip using Basic Gray ink. [I see this row of elephants and think of the parade the circus would have from the railroad depot to the Big Top "back in the day."] The small ticket image was stamped repeatedly on a strip of Summer Starfruit cardstock using Summer Starfruit ink and punched out with the small ticket part of the Ticket Duo Builder punch. The punched tickets were placed end-to-end on the Sticky Strip across the bottom of the page. The hat part of the elephant image was stamped three times on Very Vanilla cardstock using Primrose Petals ink and two times using Summer Starfruit ink. The hats were cut out with Paper Snips and adhered over the Basic Gray elephant hats.
To create the focal point image, the "You're Amazing" image was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Summer Starfruit ink and die cut in the Big Shot using the 3 3/8" x 4" Labels Collection Framelits. A piece of Primrose Petals cardstock was die cut in the Big Shot using the next larger size of Labels Collection Framelits then paper pierced along the inside edge of the die cut using the corresponding template in the Festive Paper Piercing Pack and the Paper Piercing Tool. The "You're Amazing" die cut was adhered at the center of the Primrose Petals die cut and then adhered near the upper left corner of the base page using Stampin' Dimensionals.
The hot air balloon image was stamped on Crumb Cake cardstock using Basic Gray ink and cut out with Paper Snips, less the pennants that extend out from the bottom of the balloon. The image was stamped a second time on Very Vanilla cardstock using the brush tip of the Summer Starfruit Stampin' Write Marker to color the balloon and the brush tip of the Primrose Petals Stampin' Write Marker to color the pennants. The balloon and pennants were cut out using Paper Snips and adhered over the Crumb Cake balloon using Stampin' Dimensionals. The hot air balloon was adhered to the upper right corner of the focal point using SNAIL for the area that rests on top of the focal point and a Stampin' Dimensional for the part that sits over the base page.

A page embellishment was created by stamping the large "Winner" ticket image twice on Very Vanilla cardstock using Primrose Petals and Summer Starfruit inks. The images were punched out using the large ticket of the Ticket Duo Builder punch. The two tickets were adhered together with the left corners overlapped slightly. The embellishment would be adhered to the page using Stampin' Dimensionals.

You can see that many of the individual elements of this card front mirror, exactly, the elements of the scrapbook page. The notable difference is that the elephant was not stamped above the row of tiny tickets at the bottom edge of the card front. Instead, the elephant was stamped on a piece of Basic Gray cardstock using Basic Gray ink, cut out with Paper Snips, and adhered to the lower left corner of the focal point using SNAIL.

The large "Winner" ticket image was stamped twice at the lower left front corner of the Medium Very Vanilla Envelope. However, a little masking was involved. First, stamp the "Winner" ticket image using Primrose Petals ink at the lower left front corner of the envelope front with the "r" pointing toward the upper right corner of the envelope front. Stamp the ticket image a second time on the front side of a Post-It Note with the bulk of the stamped image residing over the area where the repositionable adhesive is located on the back of the Post-It Note. Insert the Post-It Note image into the paper slot of the Ticket Duo Builder punch and punch out the ticket using the large ticket part of the punch. Place the punched ticket directly on top of the stamped Primrose Petals ticket on the envelope front. Using Summer Starfruit ink, stamp the ticket image at the lower left front corner of the envelope with the "r" pointing toward the lower right corner of the envelope and the left side of the ticket slightly overlapping the Primrose Petals ticket. Press down firmly on the stamp (without rocking the stamp) and then remove. Remove the Post-It Note from the Primrose Petals ticket. If you look closely at the bottom edge of the Primrose Petals "Winner" ticket on the envelope photo, you'll see a bit of a "white" shadow where the Summer Starfruit ticket meets the Primrose Petals ticket. This is caused by the difference in height between the envelope surface and the Post-It Note. Pressing down firmly when you stamp the second ticket will usually prevent this shadow from occurring.
I mentioned earlier that I really like some of the images in this stamp set; especially the word stamps. Did you know that Stampin' Up! is offering the "Happy Birthday" image from this stamp set for sale as a single stamp image? That's only one of many great images that are available from a number of popular stamp sets. But these single stamps are only available through January 2. 2013. One more thing. One of the ladies in my Sunday Afternoon StamperS (SASS) Stamp Club chose not to use the elephant image for her projects. Her reason? An elephant with the trunk pointing down is considered unlucky! A lucky elephant would have his trunk curled upward. I was curious about this and went to the authoritative source for information, the Internet, and found a slew of articles about this. Who knew? It seems to go along with the horseshoe always pointing up to prevent the luck from running out. (Click here for an article that you may find interesting.) Gotta love the internet!
