Tropical Thoughts

Hi there!  Thanks for stopping by to visit!

How are you holding up with the heat (that's if you're in most of the Continental US)?  It's been a scorcher recently hasn't it?  Summer is most certainly taking hold.  So my thoughts are always on how to stay cool.  I can't think of a better place than lying on a grass mat near the shore, in the shade of swaying palms with lots of fragrant flowers scattered round, and something refreshingly fruity that comes with a brightly colored umbrella.  Can't you just hear the waves gently lapping the shoreline and the soft rustle of the palm fronds?  That's exactly what I thought of when I first saw the Tropical Party stamp set in the Summer Mini Catalog.  I first used this stamp set here, and while I was very pleased with the project, I really wanted something that evoked the feeling of "waves gently lapping the shoreline and the soft rustle of the palm fronds."

This card uses the Square Lattice Textured Impressions embossing folder for the Big Shot to make the grass mat.  A piece of Old Olive cardstock is run though the Big Shot with the embossing folder and then the edges are sponged with Old Olive.  I used an Edge Distresser, Bone Folder, and the blade of a large pair of scissors to achieve the raggedy edges for the mat to give it some character.  It's adhered to the Tangerine Tango card base with Tombow Multi Adhesive.  (Note that the card fold is on the left.)

There's lots of masking in this project.  You see the first evidence of the masking on the focal point with the sentiment and the palm fronds.  The sentiment, from the Favorite Thoughts stamp set, was stamped first using Early Espresso ink and then masked with a Post-It Note cut to size.  Then the palm fronds were stamped around the edges of the Whisper White cardstock.  The edges of the Whisper White cardstock were sponged with Old Olive ink and then matted to a piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock whose edges were sponged with Tempting Turquoise ink.  A bow of Daffodil Delight 1/8" Taffeta ribbon accents the sentiment for the focal point.

The focal point is decorated with Tangerine Tango/Real Red and Daffodil Delight/Tempting Turquoise flowers and coconut cup full of a refreshing drink.  All of these items were stamped on Whisper White cardstock and cut out with Paper Snips.  The petals of the flowers were curled with the Bone Folder and are attached to the focal point with Gold Brads.  The coconut cup was stamped twice with Early Espresso ink and just the cup of the second image was raised above the first with using a Stampin' Dimensional.  A Tangerine Tango marker was used to color the straw and a piece of Island Oasis Designer Series Paper was stamped with the umbrella part of the coconut cup image, cut out with Paper Snips, and adhered with SNAIL.  The coconut cup 3-D image is attached to the focal point with SNAIL.  Finally, the focal point is placed askew on the card front and attached to the grass mat with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The Whisper White sentiment area of the card continues the island floral theme with large and small flowers amid the palm fronds.  This time, the flowers were stamped first, masks made of Post-it Notes were made and placed on top of the flowers and more palm fronds were stamped over the flowers.  The edges of the Whisper White cardstock were sponged with Tangerine Tango ink.  The cardstock was adhered to the card interior with SNAIL.

The masking process is used one more time to add flowers and palm fronds to the lower left corner of the envelope front.

It's time for that refreshingly fruity drink now, my shady porch with the sounds of the bubbling fountain in the swimming pool, and the ceiling fan on high speed.

I love this stamp set and your version of the card is too cute. Makes me want to go to Hawaii and sip a drink in a coconut shell. The envelope is a nice addition too.
