Watch the Birdie!
07/30/2010
Hello! Welcome to the Stampin' Addicts New Catalog Mega Blog Hop where we're featuring new stamp sets from the Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog. If you've already begun the hop, I'm sure you enjoyed Cindy's awesome work with the Countryside stamp set at Hearts Delight Cards. This stop will feature the Aviary stamp set.

This first project features the smallest of the bird cages and (I think) the cutest bird in the stamp set. The colors used for this project include Rose Red, Marina Mist (new color!), Wild Wasabi (returning color!) and Bashful Blue. Other new items on this card include the Dotted Scallop Ribbon punch, a strip of paper from the Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper pack, and 1/8" Taffeta ribbon. Now let's expand this card to a scrapbook page (or two).

Here is the card "opened up" to a scrapbook page. The only difference is that this time the bird is "popped up" to show some dimension and he's joined by a number of his friends to create a more interesting background on the page. If you were looking at an open scrapbook, this would be the left hand page.

The opposing (or right hand) page uses the same elements as the left hand page, but now the birdie friends are hanging out on branches punched from the 2-Step Bird punch. I think they're keeping company with the fella stuck in the cage. Additional cardstock colors used for this page include Garden Green and Certainly Celery for the branches.
As I worked with this stamp set, I kept thinking gift tags. I decided to make some, but needed a cute way to store them so they wouldn't get mangled until I was ready to use them.
This box is made with the Big Shot using the Fancy Favor and Top Note dies. The Top Note was embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions embossing folder. Additional items used for this project include the Small Heart punch, a heart Bitty Button, and Linen Thread. The lid is held closed with a Velcro dot. I could put 6 tags in the box very comfortably.
I'm celebrating a milestone on my blog, I've achieved my first 10,000 blog hits! Woohoo! To celebrate, I'm offering blog candy! Please leave a comment and let me know which of the projects you liked best. I'll use the random number generator to choose a winner on Monday, 8/2. Please be sure that your e-mail address is available to me so that I can contact you if you are the winner! What is the blog candy, you ask? It's all of these projects AND one 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of each color cardstock used to make these projects AND a yard of Marina Mist 1/8" Taffeta ribbon AND a yard of Whisper White 1/8" Taffeta ribbon.
Next week I'll be sharing these projects again with a little more detail on how they were made. So don't forget to bookmark this site or sign up to receive my posts in your e-mail.
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit! I hope you enjoyed the projects. The next stop on the hop features artwork by Holly using the Artistic Etchings stamp set at the Rubber Redneck blog. You won't want to miss it!

Oh, boy, it's hard to pick a favorite. LOVE the colors you used, and how clever to turn the card layout into a SB page! I guess my fave is the little box for the gift tags, though. Very cool texture on the lid!
