Textures & Frames -- Happy Birthday

Hi There!

We're down to the final couple of weeks of Sale-A-Bration and I wanted to share a card that combines three Sale-A-Bration products that you can earn for FREE with a qualifying order:  the Textures & Frames stamp set, the In Your Words Host stamp set, and the Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper.

One of the great things about Designer Series Paper that is printed only in Black & White (or shades thereof) is that it begs you to add color.  That's just what I did with a doodle-dotted panel of the Beautifully Penned Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper.  As I mentioned before, this pack of paper features the background patterns from the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper featured in the Annual Catalog--just without the colors.

This card begins with a panel of doodle-dotted patterned paper. 

  • The solid circle image from the Textures & Frames Sale-A-Bration stamp set was inked with Polished Pink ink, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper, and inked onto the panel.  This process was repeated 4 more times in a random pattern across the panel.  Note that the circles might stamp off the edge of the panel. 
  • The solid circle image was inked with Just Jade ink, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper, and inked onto the panel.  This process was repeated 4 more times in a random pattern across the panel.  Note that the circles might stamp off the edge of the panel and/or overlap a Polished Pink circle. 
  • Finally, the solid circle image was inked with Misty Moonlight ink, stamped off on a scrap piece of paper, and inked onto the panel.  This process was repeated 5 more times in a random pattern across the panel.  Note that the circles might stamp off the edge of the panel and/or overlap a Polished Pink and/or Just Jade circle(s). 
  • The panel was matted with a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock
  • A piece of White Linen ribbon, from the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack, was wrapped around the panels and tied into a bow at the left side of the panels.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/4" above the bottom edge of the doodle-dotted patterned paper
  • The panels were adhered at the center of the Just Jade card front

The "Happy Birthday" image, from the In Your Words Host Sale-A-Bration stamp set, was stamped at the center of a piece of Basic White cardstock using Just Jade ink.  The rectangular outline image, from the Textures & Frames stamp set, was stamped around the greeting using Misty Moonlight ink.  The Basic White cardstock greeting was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and adhered to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The greeting is centered over the ribbon to the right of the bow with the right edge of the greeting mat 7/16" from the right edge of the patterned paper panel and the bottom edge of the greeting mat 7/8" above the bottom edge of the patterned paper panel.

Three large Rhinestone Basic Jewels were adhered to the patterned paper panel to create a visual triangle around the greeting.

I have the best of intentions; but more often than not, the birthday cards I send tend to arrive late.  I'm sure that I will be using this sentiment quite a lot.

The solid circle images were randomly stamped across the upper third of a Basic White panel:

  • Polished Pink ink was used to ink the circle image, stamped off on scrap paper and stamped on the panel.  The process was repeated two more times
  • Just Jade ink was used to ink the circle image, stamped off on a scrap paper, and stamped on the panel.  The process was repeated one more time
  • Misty Moonlight ink was used to ink the circle image, stamped off on a scrap paper, and stamped on the panel.  The process was repeated one more time
  • As with the patterned paper panel, the circles might stamp off the edge of the panel or overlap other circles
  • The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base

The "Your birthday came, your birthday went..." sentiment was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Misty Moonlight ink.  The Basic White cardstock was matted with a slightly larger piece of Basic Black cardstock and adhered at the upper center of the Basic White panel.

A piece of the doodle-dotted patterned paper was adhered to the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  A piece of scrap paper was placed between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope and then the circle image was randomly stamped on the patterned paper using the same process used for the panel on the card front:  the Polished Pink circle is stamped 3 times, the Misty Moonlight circle is stamped 3 times, and the Just Jade circle is stamped 4 times.  Paper Snips were used to trim the excess paper from the envelope flap using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

If you look back through my blog posts, you'll see that I've used this card design quite often.  That's because it's simple, it's eye-catching, and it lends itself to making multiples in a short period of time.  You just add the greeting for the outside and the sentiment for the inside when you know what you need and you're ready to go!  With the holidays coming up, just think about how quick and easy it would be to make a stack of these cards as a gift for a friend or co-worker!

Delicate Dahlias -- Be Who You Were Born To Be

Hi There!

As promised, I'm back with another idea for the Delicate Dahlias Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  I also added a stamp image from the In Your Words Sale-A-Bration Host stamp set.

I make calendars for friends and family every year -- somewhere between 25 and 30 calendars.  To make this efficient, I pick a stamp set that has large and small images that can lend itself to multiple complementary colors.  I looked at the Delicate Dahlias stamp set and thought that it might be a great candidate for this year's calendars.

To make the calendar base, cut a sheet of Basic White cardstock to the following sizes:  4" x 7", 3" x 6", and 2" x 5".  Layer the three pieces centered one on top of the other with the largest on the bottom and the smallest on the top.  I use a small amount of repositionable adhesive between the layers to hold the layers in place while stamping.

The detailed dahlia stamp image was stamped at the lower left corner, lower right corner, and upper center of the cardstock layers using Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight, and Balmy Blue inks; cleaning the stamp between each stamping.  The dahlia outline image was stamped over the detailed dahlia image using Poppy Parade ink for the Flirty Flamingo flower, Crushed Curry ink for the Daffodil Delight flower, and Pacific Point ink for the Balmy Blue flower; cleaning the stamp between each stamping. 

Randomly stamp the small detailed flower among the dahlias focusing on the outside edges of the cardstock layers using the following ink colors and cleaning the stamp between each color:  Coastal Cabana, Rich Razzleberry, and Pumpkin Pie.  I stamped each color three times and sometimes one (or more) of those three flowers is stamped off the edge of the cardstock.  Stamp the small outline flower over the detailed flowers using Blackberry Bliss for the Rich Razzleberry flower, Bermuda Bay for the Coastal Cabana flower, and Cajun Craze for the Pumpkin Pie flower.

It's important to press firmly on the stamp images and use a Stampin' Pierce Mat under the cardstock to obtain the best results.  Note that there may be some areas that do not stamp alongside the edges of the middle and top layers of the Basic White cardstock.  Don't worry about this as these areas will be covered with the next step. 

Cut a sheet of Pacific Point cardstock to the following sizes:  4-1/4" x 7", 3-1/4" x 6-1/4", 2-1/4" x 5-1/4", and 2-1/2" x 3-1/4".  Carefully take the stamped Basic White layers apart and mat each piece with it's corresponding piece of Pacific Point cardstock.  (Set aside the remaining piece of Pacific Point cardstock for the calendar.)  Now adhere the middle layer at the center of the large layer and the small layer at the center of the middle layer.  Just be sure to match the stamped images along the edges of one layer to the next.  

Apply Tear & Tape adhesive to the cardboard backing of the Tear Away calendar.  Adhere the Tear Away calendar at the center of the remaining piece of Pacific Point cardstock.  Apply Tear & Tape adhesive at the back of the Pacific Point cardstock matting the Tear Away calendar and adhere the calendar with the right edge of the calendar mat 3/16" from the right edge of the Pacific Point cardstock that mats the center layer and the calendar/mat centered vertically over the center layer.  

Using Pacific Point ink, stamp "Be Who You Were Born To Be", from the In Your Words Sale-A-Bration Host stamp set, on a piece of Basic White cardstock and mat with a slightly larger piece of Balmy Blue cardstock and then with a slightly larger mat of Pacific Point cardstock.  Adhere the sentiment to the left of the calendar using Stampin' Dimensionals with the left edge of the Pacific Point mat of the sentiment 5/16" from the left edge of the Pacific Point mat of the center section and the bottom edge of the Pacific Point mat of the sentiment 1/2" above the bottom edge of the Pacific Point mat of the center section.

Place the calendar in the case and close the lid to protect the calendar for wrapping and/or transportation.  To display the calendar, just flip the lid of the case down and to the back to create a base.

Stampin' Up! used to sell the case for the calendars years ago but when they discontinued the item, I found them with another company.  You can find the calendar case I used for this project here.  Stampin' Up! used to sell a couple of different kinds of repositionable adhesive over the years and discontinued them.  The repositionable adhesive that I use can be found here.  A whole lot of different companies sell the tear-off calendars, but I really like the quality and price point of the ones that I use.  You can find the tear-off calendars I used for this project here. 

When I finished stamping the Basic White layers with all the colors of flowers, I couldn't decide what color to use for the mats.  So I decided to go with the contrasting color for the dahlias:  Pacific Point, Crushed Curry, and Poppy Parade.  You've seen the Pacific Point cardstock mat.  Here's the Crushed Curry cardstock mat.

Delicate Dahlias -- Thank You Kindly

Sale-A-Bration is in full swing.  I've shown you a couple of the beautiful paper packs, but I haven't shared any of the great stamp sets.  Today's post focuses on the Delicate Dahlias Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  You can earn this beautiful stamp set with a purchase of $100 USD in Stampin' Up! merchandise.  The detail in these stamp images is just amazing!

Since I used a Fall theme for my last blog post for the Stamp Review Crew, I thought I would continue the theme with this card--choosing colors that evoke a Fall feel.

This card begins with a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock.  A dot of Bumblebee reinker was placed in the lid of the Bumblebee stamp pad and diluted with water.  The bristles of a toothbrush were lightly tapped into the diluted reinker and then flicked over the cardstock panel by lightly rubbing my thumb across the bristles.  This process was repeated with Cinnamon Cider ink.  I kept the toothbrush about 10 inches above the panel to keep the droplets small.  The closer you get to the panel and the wetter the toothbrush bristles, the larger the drops of color will be.  The panel was embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder and adhered at the center of a slightly larger mat of Bumblebee cardstock.  A piece of Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon was wrapped around the panels and tied into a bow near the left side of the panels.  The bottom edge of the ribbon is 1-1/2" above the bottom edge of the Very Vanilla panel.

Now it's time to make a bunch of flowers and leaves.  All the flowers and leaves were stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and cut out with Paper Snips.

  • Bumblebee ink for the large detailed dahlia image with Cinnamon Cider ink for the corresponding outline image
  • Old Olive ink for the large three leaf detailed image with Mossy Meadow ink for the corresponding outline image.  Four of the leaf images were used for the card front
  • Flirty Flamingo ink for the small detailed flower image with Poppy Parade ink for the corresponding outline image.  Two of these images were used--one for the card front and one for the inside sentiment area of the card
  • Rich Razzleberry ink for the small detailed flower image with Blackberry Bliss ink for the corresponding outline image
  • Pumpkin Pie ink for the small detailed flower image with Cajun Craze ink for the corresponding outline image

The leaves were adhered to the Very Vanilla panel:  one at the upper left corner, one to the right of the first set of leaves, and one below the first set of leaves.  The Bumblebee/Cinnamon Cider dahlia was adhered at the center of the leaves using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The Flirty Flamingo/Poppy Parade small flower was adhered to the Very Vanilla panel below the Bumblebee/Cinnamon Cider flower to the right of the leaves.  Note that part of the flower might be under the ribbon.  The fourth set of leaves was adhered to the right of the Flirty Flamingo/Poppy Parade flower with the stem slightly under the Bumblebee/Cinnamon Cider flower.  The Rich Razzleberry/Blackberry Bliss small flower was adhered over the leaves to the right of the Flirty Flamingo/Poppy Parade flower and slightly overlapping the outside petals of the Bumblebee/Cinnamon Cider flower using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The Pumpkin Pie/Cajun Craze small flower was adhered near the upper right corner of the panel using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The "Thank You Kindly" greeting was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using Cinnamon Cider ink.  The Very Vanilla cardstock was die cut with the 1-3/8" straight edge circle die from the Layering Circles dies and matted with a piece of Cinnamon Cider cardstock die cut with the 1-1/2" scallop circle die.  The greeting circle was adhered to the Very Vanilla panel using Stampin' Dimensionals with the right side of the circles 1/4" from the right side of the Very Vanilla panel and the bottom edge of the circles 7/16" above the bottom edge of the Very Vanilla panel.

Three small, gold Brushed Metallic Adhesive Backed Dots were adhered to the card front to create a visual triangle for the greeting.

The small flowers and small leaves were stamped at the upper right corner of the Very Vanilla cardstock panel.  

  • Rich Razzleberry ink for the small detailed flower image with Blackberry Bliss ink for the corresponding outline image.  The top edge of the flower is 1/2" below the top edge of the panel and flush with the right side of the panel
  • Pumpkin Pie ink for the small detailed flower image with Cajun Craze ink for the corresponding outline image.  The top edge of the flower is flush with the top edge of the panel and the right edge of the flower is 1" from the right edge of the panel
  • The small leaves were stamped along the edge of the flowers with Old Olive for the detailed small leaf image and Mossy Meadow for the corresponding outline image
  • The cut out Flirty Flamingo/Poppy Parade small flower was adhered at the upper right corner of the panel

The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The Bumblebee/Cinnamon Cider dahlia was stamped at the upper left corner and at the lower right corner of the envelope flap of the Medium Very Vanilla envelope.  Place a piece of scrap paper between the envelope flap and the body of the envelope to keep the stamping confined to the envelope flap.

The fussy cutting for the flowers adds a little time to the construction of this card, but I think it was well worth the time.  I'll be back soon with another idea for using the Delicate Dahlias Sale-A-Bration stamp set.

I've been seeing a lot of cards with a Fall theme but it's hard for me to get into the Fall spirit.  Here in my part of Florida we have one season -- Summer.  However, there are degrees of Summer that correspond to the rest of the seasons--it's just that they are so subtle and happen so fast that if you aren't paying attention you'd never know that they happened.  To see Spring, Fall, and Winter, people in Florida who live south of St. Augustine really need to travel north for the experience.  These days, traveling isn't much of a option; so I guess if I want a glimpse of Fall, I need to make it.

The Beauty of Friendship stamp set is part of the Beauty of the Earth Product Suite.  This card uses all of the elements of the Beauty of the Earth product suite:  Beauty of Friendship stamp set, Beautiful Trees dies, Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper, and the Bark 3D Embossing Folder.  

This card begins with a card base of Mossy Meadow cardstock.  The card front was embossed with the Bark 3D Embossing Folder.  A strip of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with Misty Moonlight, Cinnamon Cider, Cajun Craze, and Mossy Meadow leaves was adhered across the card front with the right and left edges of the paper strip flush with the right and left edges of the card front and the bottom edge of the paper strip 1" above the bottom edge of the card front.

The small tree die was used to die cut a piece of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with a Soft Suede tree trunk pattern four times.  Three of the trees were inserted between a piece of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with Mossy Meadow and Old Olive that resembles grass that was torn into three strips and adhered along the bottom edge of a panel of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with Misty Moonlight and Basic White that resembles the sky.  The tree pieces and torn strips were adhered to the panel using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  Note that the left tree was adhered behind the torn strip closest to the panel, the middle tree was adhered behind the torn strip in the middle, and the right tree was adhered behind the torn strip at the front.  The panel was die cut with the 3-1/2" x 4-7/8" Rectangle Stitched die.  

Three pieces of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with a mottled color blend of Merry Merlot, Cajun Craze, Cinnamon Cider, Mossy Meadow, and Old Olive was die cut with the tree leaves die.  Each of the die cut tree leaves was then die cut two times with the small tree top die.  Collect all the little tree leaf pieces that are left over from the tree leaf die cuts.  Adhere two of the tree top die cuts per tree on the panel placing one to the left and one to the right to cover the branches of the tree die.  Teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive were used to adhere the tree top dies.  Adhere some of the tiny leftover pieces from the tree leaf dies around the bottom of the two forward trees using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

The "Thinking of you" greeting was stamped on a strip of Basic White cardstock using Night of Navy ink.  The greeting was die cut with the narrow rectangle die from the Beautiful Trees dies and matted with a slightly larger mat of Night of Navy cardstock.  The greeting was adhered to the panel with the right edge of the greeting flush with the right edge of the panel and the bottom edge of the greeting 11/16" above the bottom edge of the panel.  The panel was matted with a slightly larger panel of Night of Navy cardstock and then with a slightly larger mat of Cajun Craze cardstock.  The panels were adhered to the card front with the right edge of the Cajun Craze panel 1/8" from the right edge of the card front and the bottom edge of the Cajun Craze panel 1/8" above the bottom edge of the card front.

A narrow strip of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with Misty Moonlight, Cinnamon Cider, Cajun Craze, and Mossy Meadow leaves was adhered across a Basic White panel with the right and left edges of the paper strip flush with the right and left edges of the panel and the bottom edge of the paper strip 3/8" above the bottom edge of the panel.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

The fourth tree die was adhered along the left side of the panel with the bottom of the tree trunk 1/16" from the bottom of the panel and left side of the tree trunk 3/4" from the left side of the panel.  Adhere large leftover pieces from the tree leaf dies over the branches of the tree trunk using teeny tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.

A piece of Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper with Misty Moonlight, Cinnamon Cider, Cajun Craze, and Mossy Meadow leaves was adhered to the envelope flap of a Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.

Holly Jolly Wishes -- 'Tis The Season To Be Jolly

Hi There!

As promised, today's post features another idea for using the Holly Jolly Wishes stamp set with the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks.  The Peaceful Prints Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper is also used for the Buffalo check and fun Deer accent.  You can earn this great pack of Designer Series Paper with a merchandise purchase of $50 USD while supplies last or prior to the end of September, whichever comes first.  I just love that the deer that you see on the card front was punched from one of the fun prints contained in the Designer Series Paper using the coordinating Deer Builder punch.

Matte Finish (white) Embossing Paste was applied over the diamond dot pattern mask from the Adorning Designs Decorative Masks.  To do this, center the Garden Green cardstock panel at the center of the Silicone Craft Sheet.  Place the mask over the cardstock and anchor in place with repositionable tape or Washi tape.  Pick up some embossing paste with the palette knife and close the embossing paste jar.  Working quickly, use the palette knife to spread the embossing paste evenly over the cardstock.  Immediately remove the mask and wash off the excess embossing paste from the mask, palette knife, and silicone craft sheet with clear water.  Set the panel aside to dry -- it takes about 30 minutes.

Mat the embossed panel with a slightly larger panel of Basic Black cardstock and adhere at the center of the Cherry Cobbler card front.  Adhere a strip of Buffalo Check paper with a slightly larger mat of Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  The right and left ends of the strip are flush with the right and left ends of the mat.  Adhere the strips along the center of a slightly larger mat of Basic Black cardstock.  The right and left ends of the strips are flush with the right and left ends of the Basic Black cardstock.  Adhere the strips across the embossed panel with the bottom edge of the Basic Black mat 1-3/8" above the bottom edge of the embossed panel and the right and left ends of the strips flush with the right and left sides of the embossed panel.

Die cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock with the 2-7/8" straight edge die from the Layering Circles dies and mat with a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock die cut with the 3-1/16" scallop circle die.  Adhere a Wonderful Snowflake at the center of the Basic Black circle and adhere the circles to the card front with the bottom edge of the scallop circle 1-1/16" above the bottom edge of the embossed panel and the right edge of the scallop circle 1/8" from the right edge of the embossed panel.  Stampin' Dimensionals were used for the part of the circles above the horizontal strips and Stampin' Seal for the part of the circles on top of the horizontal strips.

The " 'Tis The Season To Be Jolly" greeting was stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and die cut with the 1-5/8" straight edge circle die and matted with a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock die cut with the 1-3/4" scallop circle die.  The greeting circles were adhered at the lower right corner of the larger circles using Stampin' Seal for the part of the circles on top of the larger circles and a Stampin' Dimensional for the part of the circles over the embossed panel.  The bottom edge of the greeting circles is 1-5/16" above the bottom edge of the embossed panel and the right edge of the greeting circles is 1/16" from the right edge of the horizontal strips.

As mentioned above, one of the prints in the Peaceful Prints Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper contains Buffalo Check deer on a Basic White background with scattered Basic Black snowflakes.  The Deer Builder punch was used to punch one of the deer from the printed paper.  The Deer Builder punch was also used to punch a piece of Basic Black cardstock.  The paper deer was adhered to the Basic Black deer using Multipurpose Liquid adhesive.  The deer was adhered near the upper left of the Basic Black/Cherry Cobbler/Snowflake circle using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Three small Cherry Cobbler rhinestones from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels were adhered to the embossed panel to create a visual triangle around the circles.

A strip of Garden Green Buffalo Check tree print was adhered near the bottom edge of a panel of Basic White cardstock with the bottom edge of the strip 3/16" above the bottom edge of the panel and the right and left edges of the strip flush with the right and left edges of the panel.

The Deer Builder punch was used to punch the deer from the Buffalo Check print paper from the Peaceful Prints Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper and adhered near the lower left corner of the panel with the outer edge of the left leg 3/8" from the left edge of the panel and the lowest hoof 1/4" above the bottom edge of the panel.

The "Fa la la la la La La La La" sentiment was stamped to the right of the deer using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The panel was adhered at the center of the inside sentiment area of the card base.

A piece of the Buffalo Check deer on Basic White background with scattered Basic Black snowflakes was adhered to the envelope flap of the Medium Basic White Envelope.  Paper Snips were used to trim away the excess paper using the edge of the envelope flap as a guide.
